From the summer of 2015 through the spring of 2016 I worked for NBC’s Washington affiliate station, WRC-TV. At NBC4 I first worked as a member of their marketing and promotions street team, staffing NBC’s tables and booths at community events throughout the DMV and engaging with viewers.
From February to May of 2016, I interned with the Advertising and Promotions department, assisting the team with creating visual promos for both the web and television. I worked as a production assistant on multiple photo and video shoots, made graphics for events and sweepstakes, built promotional snipes that ran during daytime programming, and edited story promotions that ran online.
One of the news promo videos I edited ended up being used by NBC4’s Facebook page, which has over half of a million likes. The video was promoting a story by our transportation reporter, Adam Tuss, about TSA technology and innovations. You can find the video on Facebook, where it currently has over 8,800 views.
At NBC Washington I worked on numerous campaigns, including our campaign for Women’s History Month, which highlighted the stories and experiences of women around the DC-area. I served as a production assistant and transcribed interviews that we used for multiple spots TV spots that ran throughout the month.
I also regularly assisted NBC4’s promotional photographer, Robin Fader, on photo shoots with our station’s anchors. I was mainly responsible for setting up and aiming lighting rigs, modeling for test shoots, and assisting Robin with anything else she may need on the job. Specifically, I worked on shoots with meteorologist Lauryn Ricketts and NBC4 head anchors Jim Handly and Doreen Gentzler.
